ORUBEBE REPORTEDLY DUMPS PDP FOR APC!

An unconfirmed report has it that a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday P. Orubebe, has dumped the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for the All Progressives Congress, APC

Orubebe is believed to have announced his decision on his twitter handle @ElderGOrubebe on Tuesday.

“I have concluded plans to join my folks in the APC to champion and sustain the movement for a better Niger Delta in the new administration,” was posted on the twitter handle that could not be independently verified.

Meanwhile, a close aide to the former Minister has denied the report. The aide who warned not to be mentioned in print said Orubebe was still in the PDP.

Similarly, an aide to the Beyelsa state government has also denied the report, saying Orubebe was still in the Peoples Democratic Party. According to the aide, who pleaded anonymity, no information of such nature has been received so far. We recall that Orubebe caused a stir during the 2015 presidential election when he attempted to disrupt proceedings at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, where election results were been collated

NLC PETITIONS OATUU, REJECTS SACK OF NIGERIAN LAKEMFA AS SECRETARY GENERAL!

NIGERIA Labour Congress, NLC, has petitioned the leadership of Organisation of African Trade Union Unity, OATUU, over the purported termination of the appointment of Nigerian Owei Lakemfa, as OATUU Secretary General, saying it is unacceptable to Nigerian labour movement.

NLC, in a petition addressed to the President of OATUU, a Ghanian, Brother Francis Atwoli, and copied to OATUU General Council, OATUU Executive Council, Alhaji Hassan Sunmonu; Adviser, OATUU; Secretary General, OATUU; and Director General International Labour Organisation, ILO, expressed concerned about the termination of Lakemfa’s appointment without recourse to due process.

In the petition signed by NLC’s President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, Congress argued that equally worrisome were other complaints bordering on gross abuse of Lakemfa’s human rights, victimization, harassment and intimidation as well as non-payment of his legitimate earnings.

The petition read in part “Our attention has been drawn to the purported termination of employment of Comrade Owei Lakemfa, former Ag. General Secretary of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) as Secretary General of the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU).

Comrade Owei Lakemfa was reportedly served with the letter of termination of his appointment as OATUU Secretary General dated 25 February 2015 on the 2nd of March 2015 to take effect 29 November 2015. We recall some unsubstantiated allegations against the Secretary General as well as his purported suspension from office without opportunity of fair hearing.

“We are particularly concerned about the termination of his appointment without recourse to due process.”
Equally worrisome are other complaints bordering on gross abuse of his human rights, victimization, harassment and intimidation as well as non payment of his legitimate earnings. Until the allegations leveled against the Secretary General, Comrade Owei Lakemfa are proven beyond reasonable doubt and his right to fair hearing respected, the purported letter of termination of his appointment is not acceptable to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) under our leadership”.
