HOLLYWOOD CELEBRITY TREND ALERT- HIGHLIGHTER YELLOW!

Remember when neon was all the rage last year? Well, it's still going strong. The craze has just gotten a little more specific. This season, celebs are all about highlighter yellow.

It first caught our attention when Minka Kelly wore a saturated scarf over her sage sweater for a cute dog-walking outfit. Blue jeans and Converse kicks made her entire look irresistibly replicable. Next, it was Kate Beckinsale who amped up a little black cocktail dress with a pair of strappy Jimmy Choo heels featuring the eye-catching hue. They were brilliantly sexy, modern, and classy, just like Kate.

Over the weekend Selena Gomez gave a nod to the revamped trend in a futuristic Atelier Versace number. Today, however, it was Eva Longoria who turned our heads in a pair of bright skinny jeans with contrasting black zippers. She stuck to her print-free minimal aesthetic but added a punch to her outfit with the statement color.

Take a look at the pics—are you down with the electric style?

And the most unforgettable neon yellow dress ever.

WIMBLEDON 2013 MANICURE: SERENA WILLIAMS NEON NAIL ART, HEATHER WATSON'S GOLD FINGERTIPS AND MORE!

Since Wimbledon rules call for competitors to wear nearly all-white, it can be a bit challenging for tennis stars to show off their style.

That is, of course, unless you're the fabulously flashy Serena Williams.

The 31-year-old tennis pro, spiced up her Wimbledon whites with a few eye-catching pops of tangerine, including neon orange bloomers and Nikes with equally bright swooshes during her match against French player Caroline Garcia Williams. But her real standout style statement was her hard-to-miss orange manicure, featuring different nail art on each digit.

There was a classic animal print, a bold lightning bolt, fierce flames, little lips and a decal with the word "pow" emblazoned over polka dots that looked like something straight out of an Andy Warhol piece!

And the tennis champ didn't stop there. She brought out the bling for her match too, stacking a few diamond rings on her—you guessed it!—ring finger as a final touch. And while the stackable rings and long fingernails that Williams sported may not seem like the most practical move during a championship when a firm grip on a racket means everything, she managed to win her match, so it's safe to say she knows what she's doing when it comes to her game—and personal sense of style!

But Williams wasn't the only athlete to show off fashionable flair on the Wimbledon tennis courts. Like Williams, British player Heather Watson went for long, tapered nails, but she decided to do up her digits in a uniform glittery gold hue during her match against American Madison Keys. Although she lost, she blamed the lingering effects of having suffered glandular fever— rather than her fancy fingernails—for her defeat.

Going for a slightly more practical but no less fun manicure, Maria Kirilenko went for shortly trimmed nails decorated with an attention-grabbing neon lime green when she faced off Laura Robson. She completed her look with a simple chic gold bangle.

Similarly, Kirilenko's opponent Robson opted for short and sweet nails, but the English athlete opted for the most traditional nail color of the bunch, painting her nails a pretty pink color.

Vivid manicures were also popular among competitors at the 2012 Olympics, where athletes festooned fingernails with everything with patriotic colors to Olympic rings.

Which Wimbledon manicure is your favorite? Sound off in the comments!

I'LL MARRY MY HUSBAND AGAIN AND AGAIN- MERCY JOHNSON!

Mercy Johnson is a well known Nollywood star in Nigeria, nay Africa. After taking a break from the klieg lights to get married and have her baby, she’s now ready for a new project – the Mercy Johnson Foundation.

Last Friday, A source caught up with Mercy Johnson at the Boys Correctional Center, Oregun, Lagos, where she went to speak to the boys and donate some gifts. She spoke briefly about motherhood and living beyond the moment. Samuel Olatunji recorded this excerpts…

You were at OJB’s house to see him and donate money, now you are here to donate to the Boys Reform Home in Lagos. What’s the idea?
No idea, we are just promoting the ideals of Mercy Johnson Foundation. The idea is to identify the needs, evaluate and help in our own little way. All fingers are not equal; those in position to help should do so without hesitation. You will be hearing a lot about Mercy Johnson Foundation from now on. We have put our house in order and now ready to help those we can. I strongly believe that as stars we should live beyond the euphoria of stardom and the moment. We will not always be here, what happens if you look back and realise you could do a lot to make the world better when you had the spotlight and you didn’t? I want to live beyond the moment.

Why the reform homes in Lagos?

I know I’m not glamorous to a lot of people, but we must know that if we do charitable things for publicity alone, we defeat the purpose. We need to find ways to reform young boys and girls otherwise they will make life uncomfortable for the children of the privileged. At this point, I must commend the government of Lagos State for making efforts at reforming the kids. We are looking at what we can do with the state to help make the future of these children better.

Motherhood seems to have changed you…
Yes, motherhood changes women. You begin to see yourself as a co-creator. You begin to see yourself as a protector. Few days ago, I was feeding Purity and she started dragging the bottle with me with the hot water in it. She pushed the bottle, I had to quickly push her away from the water and let it pour on my arm instead. That’s the kind of protection I am talking about. I think it will also make you feel more responsible for other children as well. You begin to see them as children of some other mothers. You have a sense of responsibility to want to protect them as well.

How are you coping with your husband and the baby?
There’s nothing like coping, he’s making my job easier. He dots on her. He carries her, feeds and does everything for her such that she misses him when he’s not around. You won’t believe she sleeps on his chest every night. He understands whatever adjustment I need to make when it comes to the baby. He’s a loving father?

What about being a loving husband?
Come on now, you know that Sam. He’s the best thing that happened to me. People usually say men are not reliable, in the case of my husband he’s a blessing. It’s obvious we are his priority.

So, your step of faith is paying off?
Yes. I am not saying its perfect, but this is close to perfection. If this is what it feels to be married, I want to marry my husband again and again.

How come you took a break and still returned as number one in Nollywood?
There’s nothing like number one in Nollywood. We are all doing our jobs; it’s just that some people are busier than others. I’m glad of what God has given me.

What should we expect from you career-wise?
I’m trying to be more selective with what I do. If the script is not good, I don’t want to do it. Our market is getting core aware and advanced as the day goes by.

How come you are not an ambassador of any brand yet?
We are having discussion with a couple of brands, when we agree with the terms, you will hear from us. However, I need to quickly point out that Mercy Johnson is a blend of youth and family brand. We just can’t stand and represent any brand. If it’s not representing the youths, which is our major consistency or the family, we will not be favourably disposed to it. I can’t at this point be ‘hawking’ cleavages in the name of promoting brand. Things have changed; this is the beginning of a new era for me.

KIM KARDASHIAN'S FIRST PHOTO SINCE NORTH'S BIRTH!

While this photo was just posted to Khloe‘s Facebook, it was actually first posted to her Instagram account three months ago.

Kim Kardashian enjoys a nice nap in this photo posted after she gave birth to her baby girl North, which was shared on her younger sister Khloe‘s Facebook!

The 32-year-old reality star is seen napping on a sofa next to Khloe‘s pet pooch Bernard.

“I love my lil baby so much,” Khloe captioned the pic, referring to Bernard.

“Breast-feeding is working for [Kim] and she already feels she has bonded with Nori,” a source recently shared to Us Weekly.

Another source added, “Kim is breast-feeding constantly. She’s loving it.”

BLAKE LIVELY , RYAN REYNOLDS RESURFACE IN DETROIT (PHOTOS)!

Since tying the knot in September, Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Reynolds have kept their public apperances to a minimum, opting to settle down in Bedford, N.Y., rather than the Big Apple.

But yesterday (June 29), Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively resurfaced at Detroit Metro Airport, where they were boarding a flight to La Guardia in NYC.

Dressed in an oversized hat and green sweater, Lively looked nothing like her fashionista self as she was escorted through the terminal by her casually-clad husband. The pair double-checked their tickets before boarding the flight.

HEMP PHOTOS: TONTO DIKEH RISKS 15- YEAR JAIL TERM!

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Friday said controversial Nigerian actress, Tonto Dikeh, risks a minimum of 15 years in jail for encouraging the consumption of hemp.

Dikeh had on Friday posted photographs of a wrap of hemp and grains of the weed formed into the letters, ‘Happy birthday POKO.’

She also posted a photograph of herself and added the inscription, ‘Mi smoke ganja mi smoke weed while my hatez smoke ma gossip.’

Her picture is a close-up of her face that seemed to depict her in a high state.

When NDLEA was contacted  for comments, its spokesman, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said the matter would be investigated.

He said the matter had been referred to the appropriate department of the agency.

Ofoyeju said, “Our attention has been drawn to the post quite frankly and I can tell you that action will be taken on it. The law is clear and NDLEA has been very clear on the issue. No one is permitted to sell, use, cultivate or encourage the use of Indian hemp in Nigeria. The weed is one of the banned narcotics in the country.

“NDLEA Act Section 14 (b) states that any person who conspires with, aids, abets, counsels, attempts to commit or is an accessory to any act or offence referred to in this act shall be guilty of an offence under this act and liable on conviction to be sentenced to imprisonment for a term not less than 15 years and not exceeding 25 years.

“Investigation has not started as of now but definitely, a step has to be taken on the matter. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse; so, it is obvious that the actress stands the risk of 15 years jail term. The appropriate department is meeting on the issue for necessary action.”

The NDLEA spokesman, however, declined to give any hint on particular steps the agency would take in its investigation, citing reasons bearing on ethics.

Dikeh’s post has expectedly drawn mixed reactions from readers, with many of them voicing concern for the way she is living her life.

BEYONCE' POSTS ROYAL NEW PICS OF BLUE IVY- JUST LOOK AT THAT CROWN!

Bow down.

It's official: Beyoncé and Jay-Z's six-month-old little girl, Blue Ivy Carter, already has so much more swag than we could ever possibly try to accumulate.

And this might have already been a known fact, but Bey was nice enough to post some photographic evidence to make it clear.

The singer shared a few BIC-themed photos on her official Tumbir page, which ranged from super cute to pretty badass (Is that appropriate when referring to a child? Whatever, it's true).

Of course, Bey steered away from uploading the generic, posed snapshots, and got crafty with her artwork.

One picture just featured an adorable, light peach dress of Blue Ivy's on a hanger, while another playfully showcased the tot's tiny, hot pink Tom Ford heels on her mama's foot. Jealous of her wardrobe? Yeah, us, too.

Another image caught a sweet moment between the mother-daughter duo, with Blue's itty-bitty finger poking at Beyoncé's face from a baby carrier. In response, Bey shared an adoring gaze at her little princess, while seemingly backstage at a show.

But the best photo—at least in our opinion—is the picture of Blue Ivy rocking her mini crown.

The angling of the image only partially shows the cutie's face as she wears her royal headgear tilted to the side, very reminiscent of the famous Notorious B.I.G photo.

WIZKID STIRS A STORM OVER NEW PORSCHE!

Barely two weeks after crashing his Porsche Panamera, Wizkid aka Star Boy, has replaced the car with an exact replica. The car costs about N15m. It is uncertain whether Wizkid insured the car but whichever way, fans are not happy about the development.

While expressed concern about his spending habits, others spoke bitterly that he could use the money to save the life of OJB Jezreel, a man who discovered his talent. However, a few congratulated him on his acquisition.

Some comments posted by fans on a popular blog:

“… and OJB is dying!”; “I hope this boy has a financial consultant/advisor. I hope he is doing better things with his money, if not”

“So Wizkid can afford to buy a new Porsche worth 15m and OJB whom he started his career with is there with limited time to live…what is wrong with Nigerian celebs??? 1M from 15 celebs isn’t too much. D’banj to me is the worst celeb in 9ja history so far that guy is a stingy peacock never heard he donated to anything in his life…pls i urge 9ja celebs 15 of you can save a live don’t wait to sing a tribute song.”

“So Wizzy has spare money 2 immediately replace a car but can’t donate as little as 100k to save OJB’s life. Hmmmmmm, anyways it’s ur money, can’t tell u hw 2 spend it but remember God is watching.”

“Instead of him to give the money to OJB! These artistes are all heartless and useless and only care about themselves. A porsche costs 10 million. OJB needs 15 Million. Whizkid, you’re such a hapless, useless, sorry ass kid.”

“OJB is dying u re busy buying car worth 15mil……na waaa and i heard he was instrumental to ur success …..dis boys no get conscience walahi”

“Operation I must drive a Porsche. But it’s so insensitive coming at a time like this, isn’t it? OJB has less than 8 weeks to live. *smh”

I DON'T HAVE A DAUGHTER OUT OF WEDLOCK - BENITA NZERIBE !

Benita Nzeribe started out as a teen star in Nollywood and later grew into adulthood long before the industry started experiencing the boom it now enjoys. Though quick to say she got into the industry by accident, the light-complexioned beau has carved a niche for herself. That is why her endorsement as Ambassador for two separate institutions is not a surprise. In this interview, she talks about her career, endorsements and refutes the rumour making the rounds that she has a love child.

It seems your love for acting has vanished ?
How do you mean ? I’m still and will remain an actress.

But you’ve been away from the big screen for some time now. What have you been up to ?
I was really not away . One thing about entertainment is that no one ever leaves it . I have been around and I’m active. I do jobs that come my way but I am a very patient person and not swayed at all . I have not been away from the big screen. I just have a different project and responsibility on my shoulders and I’m moving on by the grace of God .

What are some of those projects you’re currently handling ?

As you very well know, I am a UN Peace Ambassador and as such stand for world peace . Ambassadors work towards peace from the grassroots. Personally, I am more convinced than ever before that there should be peace in the inner mind of every human being created by God. Sadly, not every human being has been able to discover that inner mind and access the peace that is much needed for its growth and development for success .

World peace is still a tall order in our world today. However, nothing is impossible with God . I shall continue to call on Him for strength and direction as I pursue this awesome assignment. World peace must be achieved to an impressive percentage .

Secondly, as the Air Safety Ambassador of Nigeria which was bestowed on me by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), there is also a job to do . The aviation sector has recorded huge achievements under this present administration . Furthermore, I will be on location in less than two weeks from now for the shoot of their international classic TV commercial, It’s a big project; I can tell you that .

Also, I am presently recording the Malta Guinness Low Sugar Game show with Emeka Enyiocha as my co- presenter . It’s hitting the screen soon and I can tell you, it’s going to be a great show . I will be on location immediately after the NAMA TVC and thereafter, I will embark on an official trip out of the country as NAMA Ambassador .

How did you secure all these deals?

Well, let’s say that it’s God at work and the fruits of my labour as an actress

On the UN Ambassadorship, I was called upon to come and receive it. The fact that I grew from a teenager to an adult in Nollywood and have contributed to the growth of the industry and written my name in gold opened those doors for me .

So you must be swimming in money now ?
Swimming in money? Hmm. Well, I have always believed in sacrifice first before reaping, and that has worked out well for me. God has been putting smiles on my face little by little. I must appreciate Him for that. But swimming in money? Not yet.

So what was growing up like for you?

Growing up was fun because I have disciplined parents. I went to a Convent school and I think that explains how I came about my disciplined self.

Could you share with us some of those boring experiences you had while growing?

All I can remember is that all the partying that has to do with teens was never part of my experience. But I guess, it helped me to keep disciplined till date.

Do you regret not being allowed to enjoy your childhood days?

I don’t feel like I missed out at all. In fact, it’s rare to see me in a night club because I have been fashioned that way. It’s not like I’m saying it’s wrong to party, everyone should just do whatever makes them happy.

Since you attended a Convent school, how did you come about acting?

My getting into acting was never planned. My debut role in ‘Beyond Our Dreams’ was just meant to be.

So, acting was an accidental thing for you. What were you doing before acting?

I was in school then. So, my girlfriend and I came to Lagos for holidays in my elder brother’s house, Hon.Chuma Nzeribe. One day, we decided to just stroll around for sight seeing and we stumbled on an audition for a soap. We wanted to just see what they were up to and why so many people gathered there. It was curiosity and one thing led to another. I was called upon to be tried because they were actually searching for that character of a female lead. I was auditioned and the rest is history.

I heard you wanted to be a Reverend Sister?

That’s not true. I just went to a Convent school because my father believed there is more discipline and a better quality of education there. I didn’t attend the school because I was aspiring to be a Reverend Sister.

So, weren’t your parents disappointed that you chose acting after the discipline and values instilled in you at the Convent school?

There was nothing to feel disappointed about. It’s a profession just like every other one. My parents are educated so they understood that I was doing my job. I have my limits as an African woman.

What are your limits?

I can never go naked!

So, who is the lucky man?

Soon, you will find out.

Does that mean there’s a man in your life?

I’m sure you don’t expect me to have a woman in my life. Well, it’s not yet ripe to talk about that for now. But I’ll surely inform you at the right time.

How’s  your daughter doing?

My daughter? Which daughter? Where is the daughter and from whom? This is really funny, and the first time ever a journalist will be asking me about a daughter. I have none for now but will definitely get one once I’m married. Don’t be in a hurry.

But we learnt that you’re a single mother?

Wow! I’m not, please. That’s definitely not true. Why would I hide my blood from anyone if I had a daughter? Children are blessings from God so I would flaunt her to the world if I did. Relax, I will soon get there by God’s Grace. People saying that should take a chill pill and wait....

PHOTOGRAPHER DRAGS TUFACE, WIFE TO COURT OVER WEDDING PICTURES!

Tuface and Annie during their traditional marriage.

Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has fixed October 16, 2013 for the commencement of trial in a N120 million copyright suit filed against popular music star, Innocent Idibia, a.k.a. TuFace, his wife, Annie Idibia and their manager, Anthonio Anifite over photographs allegedly taken at the recent traditional wedding of the musician and his wife in Akwa Ibom State.

Abuja based photographer, Emmanuel Okolo, who is the plaintiff in the suit alongside his studio, Papilonmexy filed suit against the defendants.

He is asking for six reliefs, two of which include N100 million in general damages and N20million in exemplary damages.

At the resumed hearing of the case yesterday, neither TuFace nor his wife was represented in court. Anifite who is the second defendant was however represented by his counsel, J.O Uttute.

Meanwhile, a mild drama ensued when the judge openly admonished Uttute after the latter claimed that he had filed his defence when he had not done so.

The judge warned him not to come to this court again if he was not prepared for the case. “You told me that you have filed your response, but looking through here, there is nothing to that effect. And you are even smiling. Do you think you are here to joke? Never come to this court again if you are not prepared. You don’t even know when the case was filed and you are not prepared for it,” said the judge.

Also, the plaintiff’s counsel, Habeeb Oredola expressed worry over the defendants’ inability to appear before the court or be represented by a counsel after they were served with the writs of summon.

In the writ of summon, Okolo and his studio claimed they were contracted by TuFace’s wife through a third party, identified as Ms Chineze Anyaene to take photo shots at the traditional wedding held in Eket, Akwa Ibom state in March, 2013.

The plaintiff said, he was reluctant at the beginning since the offer was coming through a third party, but later accepted after he was convinced that the offer was actually with the blessing of the first defendant.

Annie Idibia was said to have later contacted the photographer after the wedding and demanded for the printing of 10 of the high resolution pictures taken.

JAMES BOND WATCH SELLS FOR $160,000!

Sean Connery wore the watch in the 1965 Bond movie "thunderball".

A watch adapted for the fictional British spy 007 in the James Bond movies sold for nearly 104,000 pounds ($160,000) at a pop culture auction on Wednesday after being bought, strapless, at car boot sale for 25 pounds.

The Breitling Top Time, worn by actor Sean Connery during 007's mission to find stolen atomic bombs the 1965 movie "Thunderball", was estimated to sell for between 40,000 and 60,000 pounds.

Auction house Christie's said this was the first watch to be modified by the Q branch in the Bond movies and was equipped with a "Geiger counter" to help the suave secret agent detect the emission of nuclear radiation in the film, reports Reuters.

Made by Breitling in 1962, it was adapted by the James Bond art department and was the only example produced for the movie, a Christie's spokeswoman said.

She was unable to give details on the vendor or purchaser of the watch that was one of 252 lots at the auction house's pop culture sale.

Among the many other items sold were Bob Dylan lyrics for an unreleased song and actress Elizabeth Taylor's first wedding dress, which she wore as an 18-year-old when she married Conrad Hilton Junior in 1950 in one of the social events of that year attended by over 700 guests.

"The dress symbolises one of the most iconic off-screen moments of ‘Golden Age Hollywood'," Christie's said in a statement.

The dress sold for nearly 122,000 pounds after an estimated sale price of 30,000 to 50,000 pounds.

STEPHANIE OKEREKE- FOR ME, MARRIAGE HAS BEEN WONDERFUL!

AFTER ABOUT ONE YEAR OF A CAREER LULL OCCASIONED BY HER WEDDING STAGED SOMETIME IN APRIL, 2012, AWARD WINNING THESPIAN, STEPHANIE OKEREKE-LINUS IS BACK WITH A BANG. HER NEW FILM TITLED DRY, IS A WAR AGAINST THE MENACE OF CHILD MORTALITY, PREMATURE MARRIAGE AND THE travails of down-trodden WOMEN. THESE AND MORE SHE SHARES WITH LANRE ODUKOYA

ONE YEAR IN MARITAL BLISS…
Marriage has been wonderful. It’s fun and I feel a little different sometimes but I try not to be burdened by my new status as a married person. We’re still a young couple trying to live our lives and have fun, work hard and stay committed to each other and never take each other for granted.

ABOUT THE LULL IN MY CAREER…
Sometimes you say you want to take a back seat for a while because you just got married; you want to settle in to absorb the whole married life as you try to reorganize your life. It’s a different stage in your life and you want to re-strategize properly. But I’ve done a few movies for other people.

MY NEW MOVIE…
What I’m focusing most of my attention on now is my new project. The movie is titled, Dry. I’ve finished the first phase of the film and I’m going to start the second phase soon and I’m working hard to see if I can finish it this year. The movie is shot in different places, Nigeria and abroad. Even in Nigeria, we had to shoot in different cities, Lokoja, Cross River, Abuja, Sokoto and Lagos. The phase one of shooting in Nigeria is done and I’m prepping for the second phase right now.
AN EXPOSE WOMEN’S SILENT AGONIES…
Dry as a movie is going to bring up a lot of the maternal issues that we have in this country and the fact that a lot of less privileged women are dying during childbirth. It also dwells on early marriage and the backlash. It is also going to bring to focus the need for young girls to be allowed to live their lives so that they can fulfill their destiny. And I’m going to be using the project to create awareness about VVF. It’s something I’ve been working on since I was in the university and it has been like a burden to me. It is something that I need to deliver so that I can feel light. And what is the best way to tell the story of the people who cannot express themselves or whose voices cannot be heard? This is why I’m using film as the platform that I have to bring to light the challenges women face and see the different ways we can individually and collectively play our roles to make our society a better place.

LEGION OF STARS IN THE MOVIE…
I’m spotlighting new faces. My little girl who played the role of Halimat is new but she’s wonderful. This is her first time in acting and she played such an intensive role. It’s so difficult to find child actors and this is one of the things we need to focus attention on more these days. We must train young people to know how to act and express themselves. I was so happy when they found this girl for me. Liz Benson now Liz Amai is in the film. She has been away for almost ten years. People have been trying to get her to do films but she has been saying. But after reading the script, she made up her mind to play her role. And her acceptance was wonderful because I’d always looked up to her. She’s such a fabulous actress. Olu Jacob, Hakeem Rahman, Rakiah from the north and some other actors from the north featured in the movie as well.

ABOUT MY NEW BLONDE LOOK…
I’m now on my natural hair because I just felt I should try a new thing. When you’re young, you’re up and doing but later on sometimes you just want to relax. Sometimes, carrying braids and some kinds of hair hurt. You know what it is when you have to be hitting your hair all the time and other time you have hair all over your face. I just felt like trying something new. And the fact that I can wear my natural hair, style it the way I want and change the colour is also fun.

CHIDINMA: "I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO FALL IN LOVE".

Chidinma Ekile.

Emerging as the first ever female winner of the MTN Project Fame competition, Chidinma Ekile, aka Miss Kedike has continued to steal the hearts of music lovers in Nigeria with great songs earning her different awards across Africa. She talks to Entertainment Rave candidly in this interview about her life and career.

How would you want to describe the state of your career at the moment?
Let me say it’s interesting, though I’m not where I want to be but I’m happy with where I am right now. I have recorded quite a number of achievements, so I don’t regret where I am at the moment.

What are the things working for you and the ones working against you? I don’t think there is anything working against me; everything is working perfectly for me. I have a fantastic team that ensures everything goes as planned and it has made my life very easy.

What will you say is the best thing that has happened to your brand? The best thing right now is winning the KORA Award. It’s not even about winning the award but the fact that I have been accepted by other African countries. What I have always wanted is to be seen as that young girl recognized as an African icon because it means a lot to me.

Do you have any winning principle that is working for you? Yes, one step at a time. I do not try to worry about something I know I can’t change. I just do the best that I can do and leave the rest. I feel very excited because people now look beyond the music. They get inspired when they see me and that alone has kept me going.

What are you working on at the moment? I'm working on my album right now. I’m working with different producers and artistes trying out new things. A lot of people wonder aloud: “are you sure this is Chidinma”? So I’m just trying out a lot of things and testing waters. I’m moving out of my comfort zone actually.

Why are you on low cut? First of all, I was having issues with my hair and I went online to check out all sorts of hairstyles. I just told the barber to cut it and I liked the new look. I still wasn’t optimistic about it until we did a photo shoot and the outcome was amazing. It also makes me look different and I have no plans to change it.

What has been your greatest challenge so far in your career? I used to have challenges as a very young and new artiste. Before now, there are lots of things I don't understand about the industry but thank God for the kind of team I have, they put me through a lot of things. While I was in Project Fame, we used to perform other artistes songs and I didn't know what it was like to write your own songs and the people also accepting it. So I actually struggled to know what people want and it was a big problem while I was recording my first album.

What exactly does 'Kedike' mean? Kedike depicts love actually. It’s a love song we intended to make commercial. It was hard when we started working on it but we eventually achieved the hit. We actually invented the word ‘Kedike’.

That means you understand so much about love? I'm not in love, so I don't know. The fact that I sing about it doesn't mean I’m in love. That is why music is an art; you have to put yourself in that position. Like actors, they don't act everything that happens to them. They get scripts from directors and just act. You are reaching out to people and to convince them, you need to act and put yourself in their shoes. So I don't know what love is because I’m not in love.

I guess you want to be discreet about your relationship? Not exactly. I’m not in any relationship and I’m not in love.

What is the truth about your relationship with Adams of Soundcity? Yeah, I heard that story but I believe this kind of things come with the job. I have decided to put myself in the public eye and every now and then, there will be stories, but I don't have a problem with that because I know it comes with the job I do and I am ready for it. So far I’m making my money; any other thing does not matter.

What is the greatest thing stardom has done to you? Everywhere I go; people actually want to talk to me. They want to know me and it feels really good, though it can be really frustrating sometimes but it is the life I have chosen. It’s a good thing that people see you and appreciate what you are doing.

Do you think there is any misconception about your brand or about you as a person? I don’t think there is any. From day one, I have made it really clear who I am. Though there was a struggle knowing how to place the brand but it eventually happened.

At a point in your career, do you ever think your height might be a disadvantage? I have always been more than confident in myself. I have never felt there is something I can’t do. I always have that mindset that my size has nothing to do with where I want to be. My mum says to me that you can be anything you want to be. You can achieve anything so far your mind is in it and you work towards it. So I believe I can do anything no matter my height.

What is your greatest inspiration? God has been my greatest inspiration. Sometimes, I just feel like there is nothing in my head but God always make it happen. My God is the God of all possibilities and he is my greatest inspiration. My mum too has always been there for me.

What is your take on controversy? Controversy can be a good thing and it can also be a bad one but I don't really like controversy because it just makes people perceive you wrongly.

What was the first thing that came to your mind when you were appointed MTN Ambassador? I was not shocked because I felt it’s overdue. I was happy nevertheless because it’s a good thing, so I just smile and thank God.

What is your idea of a better Nigerian music industry? My idea of a better Nigerian music industry is when a lot of people come and accept good music. In Nigeria, we are beginning to forget about good music. We think we have too many problems that we need to forget about and we just dance away our sorrows. I'm not saying this because I think my music is too good but I just think we should not forget to have good and proper music in place.

When it comes to film making in Nigeria, one cannot overlook excellence. Some have made their work speak for them and one of such people is pretty Movie producer and screen writer, Emem Isong who is the CEO of Royal Arts Academy, Lagos.

The Theatre Arts graduate of the University of Calabar has done professional courses in Screen writing at home and abroad including one with BOB TV and the London Film School. She produced her first movie ‘Breaking point’ in 1996.

The movie professional has produced many movies like Critical decision, Reloaded and others.

Emem has won many awards like City People ‘Best Producer Of The Year 2009, Zafaa award ‘Best Producer Of The Year 2011, Pamsa Award 2012 ‘Best Movie Producer of The Decade, Lifetime Achievement Awards (GIAMA 2012) and AMAA 2013 Special Recognition Award. She tells GERALDINE AKUTU about her movies and success so far.

What was growing up like?
Well... it was a wonderful experience for me. I am the eldest of my parents’ three children. We are close and support each other.

How did you venture into movie making?
After my National Youth Service, I worked at the then Lion bank for two years. I had interest in movies and my theatre background made me go into it. I opened a company called Theatre Images in 1996.

At what point did you decide to call your company Royal Arts Academy?
Hmm... I had done about five movies while running Theatre Images before changing it to Royal Arts Academy. I was working as an Independent producer with a Movie marketer in Onitsha called Remmy Jes while running my own company, Theatre Images. After seven years of working with him, I left and founded Royal Arts Academy in 2008. I’ve been making movies for 16 years now.

What does it take to be a Film producer?
It takes focus, dedication and hard work to be good. You have to know how to bring everybody together to make a movie.

What do you consider before writing?
I look at the environment, things happening around me, sometimes true life stories, things that happened to me and things I read. Originally, I did advocacy stories, stories that talk about the ills in our society.

When did you discover you wanted to be a Filmmaker?
I’ve always loved the arts. Right from my secondary school days, I would create stories and I want to say here that, it is an inborn thing as well as a gift from the almighty God.

What motivated you to make a success out of your career?
Wow! I am the kind of person that puts my mind to what I do and do it to the best of my ability. I am a determined lady and I give what I do my best shot.

Your role model?
In Nigeria, I admire the works of Amaka Igwe, Tunde Kelani while internationally I love Steven Spielberg, Spike Lee and other notable film producers.

Are you doing what you have always wanted to do?
Yes! I have always wanted to be part of the movie world. I love everything about the arts.

Women love shoes, bag and jewellery, what are you into?
I like bags but I love watches. I have a lot of them.

What is your beauty routine like?
I drink water a lot to detoxify my system, moisturise daily and eat right.

What’s your favourite food?
My favourite food is Afang soup. Everyone who knows me knows that (laughs).

What do you consider before getting dressed?
I look at where I am going. I really don’t believe in following trends but love to look good. I love simple things and I’m not a loud dresser. I believe that less is more!

What project are you working on at the moment?
I just finished a production called ‘ Knocking on heaven’s door’, a straight to DVD movie titled ‘Forgetting June’ and others waiting to come out.

What is the best movie you’ve ever produced?
Hmm... I absolutely love a couple of the movies I’ve produced like Emotional crack, Critical decision, Games women play, Reloaded, Weekend getaway and I’ll take my chance.

On the subject of sexual harassment in the film industry, have you experienced any?
Not at all! Well... I don’t know because I am not an actress. For me, I have never faced such a thing.

When you are not working, how do you unwind?
I love reading books.

Advice to upcoming young people?
Be passionate, believe in yourself and never, ever give up!

MANDELA'S CONDITION DETERIORATES!

BBC
The condition of former South African leader Nelson Mandela has deteriorated in recent days, presidential spokesman Mac Maharaj has said.
The announcement came as President Jacob Zuma cancelled a trip to Mozambique following consultations with Mandela's doctors.
Mandela, 94, South Africa's first black president, has been in hospital since 8 June with a lung infection.
Emotional crowds continue to gather outside the Pretoria hospital.
They have been adding messages of support for Mandela, known by his clan name Madiba.
Correspondents say South Africans now seem resigned to the prospect of his death.
"We don't like seeing Mandela going through so much pain, he has had a tough time in his life and he's gone through a lot of struggle. I think this struggle should get over sooner," Khulile Mlondleni told the BBC.
"We are all going to feel bad when he passes [away], but at the same time we will be celebrating his life. He has done so many great things for this country," said 25-year-old John Ndlovu, quoted by Reuters news agency.
Maharaj said on Wednesday evening that Mandela's condition had deteriorated over the weekend.
South African Leader Nelson Mandela.

After consultations with doctors, Zuma said he was cancelling his trip to a regional summit in the Mozambican capital Maputo.

The statement from his office said he "reiterated his gratitude on behalf of government, to all South Africans who continue to support the Madiba family".

The decision will only reinforce the impression that Nelson Mandela's life is slipping away, the BBC's Mike Wooldridge reports from Johannesburg.

But later Zuma's office warned against speculation about Mandela's health, saying that announcements about his condition would come from the president himself or Maharaj.

Maharaj criticised some media outlets for broadcasting unverified information, as rumours spread on social media sites.

Mandela is revered for leading the fight against white minority rule in South Africa and then preaching reconciliation despite being imprisoned for 27 years.

He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 and was elected president the following year. He left office in 1999 after a single term.

MICHELLE OBAMA JOINS INSTAGRAM!

Michelle Obama has officially joined Instagram and for her first upload on the popular photo-sharing site, the First Lady posted a picture of her and daughter Malia with several other women they met recently on the First Family's trip to Africa.

"My first instagram!" Obama wrote in the caption. "So inspired and so impressed by these extraordinary young women".

Michelle also took advantage of the new video option that Facebook, which now owns the company, recently introduced by posting a 15-second clip of students performing a welcome dance at MLK Middle School in Dakar, Senegal.

Obama opened her account not long after the White House joined Instagram and as of press time, @whitehouse is the only Instagram user @michelleobama is following. And in the short time since its launch, she's racked up 1,000 followers (by comparison, President Obama has over 2 million followers, but to be fair, he's been on Instagram a lot longer!).

We're eager to see what Barack's other half plans to share with us beyond Africa. Snapshots perhaps of the White House vegetable garden where she encourages healthy eating as part of her campaign fighting childhood obesity? Or maybe a few selfies of her trendsetting style with some pics of her latest outfits?

Either way, the Obamas are doing a good job chronicling their travels for their fellow Americans. A photo uploaded to the White House's Instagram account showed Marine One taking off as the First Family embarked on their tour earlier this week. Another video showed the warm welcome they received on their way to Senegal's Presidential Palace as crowds turned out to cheer their caravan as it rode through the capital's streets.

Up next, the Obamas plan to visit South Africa and Tanzania, though they'll skip Kenya, the birthplace of President Obama's father, due to political turmoil there.

And by journey's end, perhaps they'll have signed up for Vine too.
